Mountain Guns Installed at Gorkha Chautari to Honor Lahure Legacy

By Lajes Rai, Province 1, Sunsari

Dharan–20 – In a tribute to the proud legacy of Gorkha Lahures, two Mountain Guns have been installed at the under-construction Gorkha Chautari in Dharan-20. The initiative was jointly sponsored by retired Chief Inspector Mr. Netra Bahadur Thapa (Gorkha) and retired A.S.P. Mr. Madan Kumar Gurung (Chitwan).

According to Mr. Purna Limbu, Director of the Gorkha Chautari project, the total cost for the construction and installation amounted to NPR 170,000.

Originally, the plan was to install a “Domi”-type Mountain Gun, used by the Gorkha regiment in London. However, due to immigration regulations classifying the Domi as a destructive weapon, the legal process became too complicated. Instead, locally manufactured replicas were commissioned, maintaining the symbolic value of the original.

The inauguration ceremony witnessed a strong turnout of Gorkha Lahures residing in Dharan. Organizers expressed hope that this effort would help keep the rich Lahure history alive for future generations.
